Cloud Computing Readiness
Logicalis is the leader in applying cloud and group
computing architectures to successfully solve complex business
problems.
Cloud computing is revolutionizing the way users interact with
applications and access computing power. Already, some savvy
companies are figuring out ways to reduce their internal IT
footprint and move a majority of their computing work to the cloud.
Now, one critical question:
Q: What part of your infrastructure is
most critical to your success with cloud computing?
A: Your corporate network, specifically
its performance and how it handles data, are the major factors in
whether your company’s cloud computing experience is a good
one.
Think about it. In years past, your network handled files and
data. Today it handles voice calls and video, as well. In the next
generation of cloud computing, it will handle mouse movements and
clicks, keyboard input, and screen navigation.
What is “Cloud Computing?”
Despite the ethereal name, the concept of cloud computing is
fairly simple. Rather than running software on its own
computers--”onsite” as the terminology goes—a company accesses
software on computers operated by an external entity. This group of
external software providers makes up “the cloud.”
The software is accessed over the internet and private networks
using a web browser, which eliminates the need for local storage of
software or data. When done right, the experience for the user is
identical to that of running the software locally, and it doesn’t
matter where the systems that run it are physically located. They
are “out there somewhere”—in “the cloud.” Since this method of
purchasing software can be turned on and off instantly, and is
often paid for on an as-you-go basis, cloud computing is also often
termed “software as a service.”
Are you ready?
- Are you sure it’s up to the capacity challenge? Are
next-generation networks the answer?
