Intelligent Decisions, Inc. moves forward - and into a
new facility - with an IPT Solution from Logicalis that truly means
business.
The Client
Intelligent Decisions, Inc. has been a recognized leader of
information technology solutions in the federal market since 1988.
In 2000, the company expanded its focus to the commercial market
with custom configured, Intel-based server products for ISPs and
Fortune 1000 clients.
The Challenges
As its business grew, Intelligent Decisions recognized a need to
move operations into a larger facility. The decision presented a
number of challenges for the company's communications systems.
First, minimizing the impact to business operations during the
transition was critical. "We needed an experienced and reliable
vendor who could work with us to coordinate this time-sensitive
project," says Johnny Lee, CTO of Intelligent Decisions.
The challenge was further complicated by the fact that employees
frequently change locations within the building. The legacy PBX
system they used would require them to re-punch the wires to move
the phone lines to different locations. They wanted to avoid that
time-intensive labor moving forward.
The legacy PBX system also had other serious limitations. Its user
interface presented a stiff learning curve, creating administration
headaches even for what would seem to be simple tasks. And it could
not handle remote access. "With our new business model," says Lee,
"we have to support telecommuters and employees who spend lots of
time on the road, but our old legacy system had no capability of
supporting remote workers."
And the final challenge was system support. "We received no direct
technical support from the manufacturer of our old PBX system,"
says Lee. "And not only were we locked into a single local vendor
for all technical support, but the vendor was asking an
unreasonably high annual maintenance price."
The Solution
While the wise solution was certain to involve IPT, Intelligent
Decisions had no direct experience with the technology. They needed
a vendor who could educate them regarding all possible solutions
before they made a commitment and then identify and execute the
best solution–not push them to a solution the vendor wanted to
sell. Intelligent Decisions did their homework, and then
turned to Logicalis for results.
Through the pre-sales support process, Intelligent Decisions and
Logicalis determined that Cisco, the acknowledged technology leader
in IPT communications, offered superior solutions to every
challenge. Logicalis project managers and engineers took charge of
all aspects of the project. Along the way, Intelligent Decisions
was kept well informed of progress to ensure that every expectation
was met:
- The switchover to IPT was made without a hitch.
- Intelligent Decisions' road warriors were set up with a Cisco
IPT communicator, a phone application that runs on a remote PC and
allows remote users to place and receive phone calls through the
corporate network.
- A simple, graphical Web-based tool made administration easier
than ever.
- Dependable, cost-effective technical support was made available
on a 24x7 basis.
- Most importantly, Intelligent Decisions' critical IPT project
was completed within the promised schedule and budget
estimate.
